EKKA Quality Label

EKKA quality label

The Estonian Higher Education Quality Agency (EKKA) is Estonia’s leading competence centre in the external evaluation of higher education. The main activities of the agency are the institutional accreditation of institutions of higher education and the quality assessment of study programme groups. The EKKA is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). The external evaluation of Estonian higher education meets the European quality requirements set out in the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the EHEA (ESG).

The system of external evaluation of Estonian higher education is based on the principle of the autonomy of the institution of higher education: the institution itself is primarily responsible for the quality and sustainability of its higher education studies. The quality agency provides support to such institutions in strategic management and the development of quality culture.

If the EKKA quality assessment council decides to accredit an institution of higher education for seven years unconditionally, it awards the EKKA quality label to the institution. If the committee appends a condition to seven-year accreditation, the quality label is awarded to the institution only after the condition has been met.
The quality label proves that efficient management and development of studies and research take place in the institution of higher education and that the institution contributes to the development of society.
The institution of higher education links the quality label on its homepage to the Estonian and/or English page(s) of the EKKA website’s institutional accreditation reports and assessment decisions.

EKKA Quality Label is awarded to ten higher education institutions (2012-2016):
